The Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg – An accessible tour de force

From the paved surface of the underground garage to the wave-shaped glass roof, the Elbphilharmonie is filled with special ideas that mark it out as an architectural masterpiece. Approx. 4300 m² of paving were installed on top of the underground park thanks to the ZinCo system build-up “Driveway with Elastodrain®”.

The new Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) is a symbol of education, culture and sustainability, both for the people of Greece and in the wider international context. This project was awarded LEED Platinum Certification and is the largest construction project in recent Greek history. The buildings house the Greek National Opera (NGO) and the National Library of Greece (NLG) and are literally embedded in the open park that stretches over an area of 17 hectares.

“Le Cordon Bleu” in Paris – An instructive and tasty roof

The roof garden supplies the kitchen with tasty ingredients and at the same time is part of the educational programme at “Le Cordon Bleu”. In addition, the roof is home to four bee hives and an insect hotel. A wonderful example of urban farming, because rooftops with the right ZinCo green roof are ideal for use as a cultivation area.

Green and solar – 4 % increase in yield

The combination of green roof and solar energy can produce significant synergy effects: the green roof provides the superimposed load required to protect the system against wind uplift. Therefore, there is no need for roof penetration or heavy individual point loads. In addition, green roofs provide for a lower ambient temperature compared with bare or gravelled roofs and as a result they help to increase the yield from a solar energy system.
